WE THE PEOPLE: Celebrating the U.S. Constitution anniversary

September 17 is an important day in the United States of America, as it is the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. In 2012 we celebrate its 225th anniversary (it was signed on September 17, 1787). The Constitution is the supreme law of the country. It sets up the government, protects basic rights of the Americans and guides American society in law and political culture. As a curiosity, it is the oldest written national constitution in continuous use.

In the video, students and staff of Yale University read the Preamble of the Constitution at the grave of the Hon. Roger Sherman, one of America’s founding fathers.

Preamble:

We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our  posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Tras ver el vídeo podremos hacer una actividad sobre la Constitución de los Estados Unidos de América.
